About this holiday
This Peru tour with Machu Picchu covers the country’s headline sights in one trip. You’ll begin in Lima, then fly south to Arequipa. From there the route runs through the Colca Valley, on to Lake Titicaca and up into Cusco. Flights, hotels, transfers and guided visits all sit inside the price.
Machu Picchu is the centrepiece. You’ll travel by train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, then take the bus up to the citadel for a guided visit of around two and a half hours. Cusco earns its time too. Its cobbled streets and terracotta rooftops sit right in the heart of the Andes.
Arequipa comes early and sets the tone. The UNESCO listed centre sits below the Misti volcano, and the Santa Catalina Monastery anchors the included city tour. Later, at Cruz del Condor, you’ll look out over the Colca Canyon and watch for Andean condors overhead. On Lake Titicaca you’ll meet families living on the Uros floating islands, then cross to Taquile for lunch.
Free days in Arequipa and Cusco give you room to breathe. Because of that, you can add Rainbow Mountain, the Sacred Valley or a night tour of Cusco if you want more. This is an independent trip rather than a fixed group departure, so local guides and drivers meet you at each stop.

Your itinerary, day by day
Day 1: UK to Lima
Fly from your chosen UK airport to Lima. On arrival you'll transfer to your hotel in Miraflores for the first night.
Day 2: Lima to Arequipa
Fly south to Arequipa, then join a half day tour of the colonial centre. You'll visit the Santa Catalina Monastery and the Yanahuara viewpoint, with the Misti volcano behind the city.
Day 3: Arequipa at leisure
A free day to explore Arequipa at your own pace. Alternatively, add the optional private excursion along the Sillar Route to see how the city's white stone is quarried and cut.
Day 4: Arequipa to the Colca Valley
Travel over the Pampa Cañahuas, where vicuñas graze, with stops at Patahuasi and Tocrapampa. Lunch is in Chivay at your own expense before you reach your hotel in Colca.
Day 5: Colca Valley to Puno
Stop at Cruz del Condor above the Colca Canyon, the second deepest in the world, and watch for Andean condors. The road on to Puno passes Maca, Chivay and the volcanic viewpoint at Patapampa.
Day 6: Lake Titicaca, Uros and Taquile
Head out by boat to the Uros floating islands and meet the families who live on them. Afterwards you'll continue to Taquile for lunch with locals and views across the lake.
Day 7: Puno to Cusco
An early start for the overland route to Cusco. You'll stop at the Pucara museum, the La Raya pass, the Raqch'i temple complex and the church at Andahuaylillas, with lunch on the way.
Day 8: Cusco, Machu Picchu and back
Transfer to Ollantaytambo and take the train to Aguas Calientes. A bus climbs to the citadel for a guided visit of about two and a half hours before you return to Cusco for the night.
Day 9: Cusco at leisure
A free day in Cusco. You can add Rainbow Mountain or the Sacred Valley as an optional excursion, although the two overlap, so only one is possible.
Day 10: Cusco to Lima
Fly back to Lima and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours for the Pacific clifftop parks or the restaurants of Miraflores.
Day 11: Lima city tour
A half day tour of Miraflores, San Isidro and the historic centre, including the Santo Domingo Convent and the Plaza de Armas. You'll also visit the Larco Museum and its collection of ancient Peruvian artefacts.
Day 12: Lima and overnight flight
Breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to the airport for the flight home. You'll spend the night on board.
Day 13: Arrive in the UK
Land back in the UK and the trip ends.
