When Inghams invited me to experience their Lapland package first hand, I jumped at the opportunity. Not only would this help me provide even better service to my clients, but it would keep me up to date with all things Lapland—ensuring I provide a more enriching experience to families dreaming of their Arctic adventure.
What I discovered in Levi exceeded my expectations. This wasn't just a trip; it was an immersion into the magic that makes Finnish Lapland so special.
Home Away from Home: Levi Black Apartments

We stayed at the Levi Black Apartments, nestled just on the outskirts of Levi—about a 10-minute walk into town. For families seeking a peaceful retreat after a day packed with adventure, this location is ideal. The apartments offer a perfect balance: close enough to access everything Levi has to offer, yet far enough to enjoy tranquil evenings away from the bustle.
Our apartment featured four bedrooms, two showers and WCs, and one sauna—a quintessentially Finnish touch that my clients always appreciate. While the living space is a little compact, it's thoughtfully designed with enough room for everyone to gather around the dinner table or relax on the sofa in the evening, sharing stories of the day's adventures.
The resort also boasts two hot tubs, free to use but requiring advance reservation—a lovely way to unwind under the Arctic sky.
Dining is served buffet-style, and while it may look modest at first glance, it genuinely ticks all the boxes. There's plenty for everyone, with a fair selection catering to all tastes—from hearty Finnish fare to options for fussier eaters.
Accommodation is available on both self-catering and half-board basis. For those opting to self-cater, there's a mini supermarket directly across the road stocked with everything you need. The apartments themselves are beautifully furnished with a blend of pine and dark wood, creating that warm, Nordic aesthetic families love.
Day Two: Snowshoeing and Snowmobiling Arctic Adventures
Day two was packed with outdoor adventure, starting with an experience that truly captured the essence of Lapland's winter wilderness.
Snowshoeing Through Frozen Landscapes
Our two-hour snowshoe trek began right opposite the hotel—convenient and accessible for all guests. The guides offered a couple of different routes according to ability, which I really appreciated. I opted for the slightly more demanding trail that ventured up into the trees, leaving the marked path behind.
The route took us through a small wood before emerging onto a frozen lake. It was here that I experienced one of those unforgettable Arctic moments: just as we turned a corner on the lake, a slight breeze picked up and instantly dropped the temperature, freezing my beard solid. It didn't last long—as soon as we were off the lake, the wind dropped off again—but it's exactly the kind of story families will tell for years to come!
From the lake, we climbed up into the forest, finally reaching a clearing viewpoint that looked back over the lake towards Levi. The views were absolutely stunning, and the sense of achievement after the trek made it all the more rewarding.
The experience was a great laugh, and the guides were excellent at tailoring the adventure to different fitness levels. For families with older children or teens looking for something beyond the typical activities, snowshoeing offers a brilliant way to explore Lapland's wilderness at a more intimate pace.
Snowmobiling Through the Arctic Wilderness

On our second day, we embarked on the 28km snowmobile experience—something I've wanted to do for years. It did not disappoint.
We set off from Levi centre, following the dedicated snowmobile track through the dark wilderness until we reached a huge frozen lake. There, we stopped at a warm lodge for berry juice or cocoa by the fire, accompanied by a delicious piece of cake. Being outside in the vast, silent darkness was nothing short of amazing.

What surprised me most was the extensive dedicated snowmobile network spanning across Finland and Sweden. It makes perfect sense when you think about it—these routes allow travel when the snow comes down. In Levi alone, there are around 560 miles of snowmobile routes, though the exact number changes with the ever-shifting snow conditions.
For families with a sense of adventure, this is an absolute must-do.
Day Three: Huskies, Reindeer, and the Magic of the Forest
Day three brought the experience I knew my clients would ask about most: the combined Reindeer and Husky package, where all the animals are cared for on one farm.
The Husky Ride
The 2km husky ride was perfectly suited for younger children—ideal for anyone under the age of eight. At around -8°C with no wind chill, the ride was pleasant and comfortable. Our route took us through a beautiful snow-covered forest, and once underway, the only sound was the occasional creaking of the sleigh. It was pure magic.

The dogs are exceptionally well cared for by a team of professional keepers who are with them year-round. With around 100 dogs on the farm, every keeper must know them all by name—and even who they're related to. This isn't just about care; it's essential for preventing inbreeding.
Puppies are kept with the adults until they're one year old, allowing for a natural, stress-free puppyhood where they learn how to behave from the older dogs. And when the dogs complete their working life? They're kept on the farm, allowed to retire with their families in the place they've spent their entire lives. It's heartwarming and speaks volumes about the ethics of the operation.
The Reindeer Ride
The 1km reindeer ride offered a much more leisurely pace, taking a different but equally spectacular route through the forest.
We also had a fascinating conversation with the Sami owner about reindeer herding in Finland. There are very tight controls over who can herd and how it's done. Once the winter season ends, the reindeer are taken back to their normal pasture land, where they roam freely with the full herd. The herder travels with them and looks after the reindeer when they come to work in the winter.
It's these authentic cultural insights that make Lapland so much more than just a holiday—it's an education and an experience your family will treasure.
Hotel Inspections: Finding the Perfect Fit for Every Family
Being a working trip, it wasn't all fun (though it certainly felt like it!). We inspected several hotels across Levi to ensure I can recommend the perfect accommodation for every family's needs and budget.
Design Hotel Levi & Levi Hotel & Spa
These two hotels share fantastic facilities, including a full spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hot tubs, and—of course—saunas. Did you know Finland has a population of 5.6 million people who share 3.3 million saunas? That's three times the number of saunas than children!
Both hotels also feature a fantastic children's area, free to use if you're staying at the hotel. This includes games consoles, chill-out areas, and a large soft play for little ones. The pool area is equally impressive and included in your stay.
Crazy Reindeer Hotel
This hotel offers a great range of accommodation for families of all sizes, with flexible options to suit different group configurations.
K5 Hotel

A unique touch here: the K5 has their own private reindeer at the back of the hotel—a magical sight for children (and adults!) to wake up to.
Hotel Levi Panorama
My personal favourite for location, the Hotel Levi Panorama is perched at the top of the Levi Ski Resort, offering one-of-a-kind views over the entire area. Access is either by road or by gondola from the town—how's that for a commute?
If you'd like to know more about any of these hotels and how to book them, please give us a call. We'd love to help you find your perfect fit.
Levi: A Town That Has It All
Levi town itself has everything you could possibly need. From bowling alleys to a wide range of restaurants, plenty of bars, supermarkets, and the largest ski resort in Finland, boasting several floodlit runs and snow cannons.
Fancy skiing after the sun has gone down? Levi allows for skiing up to 7pm—when it's already been dark for several hours. It's a surreal and unforgettable experience.
Why Levi Should Be on Your Lapland Shortlist
Levi is definitely a place I'll be returning to—next time with my family. Whatever your budget, we would love to help build your perfect Levi adventure, with every type of activity you can imagine.
From snowmobiling across frozen lakes to husky rides through silent forests, from world-class skiing to authentic Sami culture, Levi offers a Lapland experience that's as diverse as it is magical.
